GLC Fall Meeting 2024

The Great Lakes Caall meeting will be at Secrest Arboretum in Wooster, Ohio, on October 19, 2024 beginning at 11 am. The meeting will have a few presentations from chapter members on recent trips to see rhododendrons and azaleas in the wild. We would also like to have a roundtable discussion about chapter hybridizers, history, and plants.

Meeting Schedule 

11 am – Chapter Business meeting and Plant Exchange/Sale 

Please bring plants you would like to sell or raffle off among members. 

12 pm – Lunch 

1 pm – Tour of Secrest Arboretum with curator Jason Veil 

2:30 pm – Short presentations by chapter members on recent excursions to see rhododendrons and azaleas in the wild. 

4 pm – Roundtable discussion on chapter history and hybridizers 

5 pm – End of meeting, optional dinner for members, location TBD

GLC Spring Meeting 2024

Our 2024 ARS-GLC Spring Meeting will be held at the Leach Research Station in North Madison, Ohio in conjunction with their open house on Saturday, May 25, 2024. We will help Connor Ryan and his staff host visitors from the local community. Up to a 150 visitors are anticipated. ARS-GLC members are asked to volunteer in whatever way they see fit. You can bring trusses for and help set up for the truss show, manage parking, help run the plant sale and set up educational stations at different locations throughout the Leach Station grounds where they will offer a mix of short tours and educational vignettes . Potential topics for members to discuss include plant care, local hybridizer history, diversity of rhododendrons, rhododendron hybridizing, and native species to name just a few.
